A new Home
I've always enjoyed producing content in various forms. One of the ways I've done this is by blogging. My first real blog was IntTips, started roughly 15 years ago. I've created multiple blogs since then, but I always had one struggle. I've used WordPress for most of them, and my last personal site used Hugo. Even though I liked it as it was easy to manage and looked simple enough, sometimes I wished it was a bit more. This was mostly related to the fact that my frontend skills were not sharp enough to make it look and feel like I wanted. Given the rise of generative AI and coding agents, I was able to craft a new website that looks more like what I wanted.
I started this website back in 2017, with my primary intent to blog about programming and software engineering in general. The old blog is still available at old.ribic.ba. Over the years, most of the blog posts have been Go-related. Lately I've been posting less and less, due to a couple of reasons. Primarily, my time is more limited as I'm getting older and have more duties and responsibilities. Secondly, posting solutions to problems I've faced is no longer valuable given that LLMs are able to solve them much better and faster.
I still have an urge to blog and want to continue doing so as long as I keep working in the industry. The topics will be more focused around engineering leadership, architecture and design patterns. Also, I'll be covering more about my side projects and thoughts on industry trends / artificial intelligence in general.
The process of building the new website was fairly simple:
- Find an open source personal project website that I liked and use it as a starting point
- Customize it to my liking
- Move content from old blog to new one, maintaining the same URLs
- Instead of using Hugo to generate HTML files from Markdown, I've generated a Python script that does the job. It even supports code highlighting and other features Hugo did.
With the rise of LLMs and AI slop, I feel the need for thoughtful writing is more important than ever.
Given that it's the end of the year, I'm looking forward to writing more and sharing my thoughts on the industry and my projects in the coming year.
